Experimentation by Kishore Shanker
Experiments contingently sometimes lead to an unexpected result –some time excellent time fatuous in Science and art. In fact, the last century was the century of experimentation and much was contributed to science and technology and to fine arts.
Kishore Shanker may be viewed as that kind of generic experimentalist. While he was a student of Fine arts, at Government College of Art Chandigarh, he often rejected the beaten track and tried something different than the expected one. Sometimes he was loathed by some of his teachers, which hampered his experimentation. But he did not give up his determination and proved to be worthy of valid appreciation in the long run.
His Photo-Graphic experiment in printmaking was displayed in the annual exhibition of the National Lalit Kala Akademi in Delhi in 1993. He still experiments and has evolved a unique technique in executing his photographic art.
His latest experiment in photography is a landmark in this newly accepted type of creative art at par with painting sculpture and graphics One needs a creative vision for abstract and painterly photography which Kishore Shanker has.
He treats the different subjects according to their innate characteristic for instance he makes a beautiful picture of a visitor to an art exhibition. Her dress is in perfect harmony with the surrounding paintings through colours and the motifs on the dress and she herself Stands beautifully next to the image of a cow that tries to greet her. It becomes a painterly photograph.
Sometimes he experiments in photoshop on the computer and comes out with interesting end results. Such as nocturnal lights, the imaginative impressions of the galaxy or spiral movement of colored light foliage or dramatic scenes are eye-catching
But most impressive among this series is the interior of the office where he has been working recently. A horizontal picture with vertical and horizontal motifs with contrast in light and shade is remarkable for its well-composed creativity. His admirers think that it is not the end; rather it is his beginning with successful experimentation in handling lenses and computers for art photography.
